PLUTO FILM is highly pleased to announce the pick-up of three outstanding movies: SEALED LIPS, WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? and ADAM & EVELYN.
PLUTO FILM has recently acquired the German production SEALED LIPS (Original title: WARUM), a historical drama starring internationally acclaimed German actors Alexandra Maria Lara (DOWNFALL, YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH, RUSH) and Robert Stadlober (CRAZY, BERLIN, I LOVE YOU). The film is planned to be ready for theatrical release in 2019.
In his latest drama SEALED LIPS GDR-born director Bernd Boehlich (FLY AWAY) draws the captivating portray of Antonia Berger, a young German and enthusiastic communist, who is imprisoned in a Soviet gulag in the 1930s. After being released years later, she is constantly caught between the urge to talk about her horrifying memories and her loyalty to the Communist party.
Secondly, PLUTO FILM holds the rights for Eva Spreitzhofer’s vibrant debut film WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? (Original title: NICHT AUCH DAS NOCH!). Produced by the powerful duo of Thomas Hroch and Gerald Podgornig, who also teamed up for the comedy ARTHUR & CLAIRE in 2017, WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? tells the story of the atheist Wanda, whose world is turned upside-down when her teenage daughter tells her that she decided to convert to Islam. Eva Spreitzhofer‘s seasonable culture-clash comedy has confirmed distributors in Germany (Neue Visionen), Switzerland (Frenetic Films) and Austria (Filmladen).
PLUTO FILM has also been able to acquire Andreas Goldstein’s debut feature ADAM & EVELYN, an adaption of Ingo Schulze‘s novel of the same name from 2008. The intense drama about an East German couple looking for their way of life – in private after a betrayal and in general after the global political situation had drastically changed in the fall of 1989 – was produced by Heino Deckert from German Ma.ja.de. Fiction (THE HUMAN FLOW, MY JOY) and shot by director of photography Jakobine Motz (KICK IN IRAN), ADAM & EVELYN has already been sold to Germany (Neue Visionen), where it is expected to start in the cinemas by the end of 2019 at the latest.
