PLUTO FILM's culture-clash comedy WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? celebrates world premiere at Zurich Film Festival

14.09.2018

The vibrant debut feature film WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? by director Eva Spreitzhofer will celebrate its world premiere on October 3, 2018 at the Competition „Focus Switzerland, Germany, Austria” section of the upcoming Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland. The director Eva Spreitzhofer and the actors Caroline Peters, Chantal Zitzenbacher, Hisham Morsher, Hilde Dalik and Alev Irmak will present the film in Zurich.

Eva Spreitzhofer is well known in Austria for her work as a scriptwriter for TV films and series. WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? is a culture-clash comedy about the atheist Wanda, whose world is turned upside-down when her teenage daughter tells her that she has decided to convert to Islam.

“We're living in times of upheaval, justified anxieties and absurd hysteria. Not a good time for elections, but the perfect time for movies, because complex themes, major conflicts and exaggerated fears are the best starting point for good comedies”, states Eva Spreitzhofer.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? (original title: WOMIT HABEN WIR DAS VERDIENT?) is produced by the Vienna-based powerful duo of Thomas Hroch and Gerald Podgornig (Mona Film Produktion), who also teamed up for the comedy ARTHUR & CLAIRE in 2017. Eva Spreitzhofer’s film already has pre-sales and confirmed distributors in Austria (Filmladen), China (Beijing Hualu New Media & Information Technology), Germany (Neue Visionen), Switzerland (Frenetic Films) and Taiwan (Catchplay). International sales are handled by PLUTO FILM.

The PLUTO FILM slate marks a strong presence at this year’s Zurich Film Festival as WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? is accompanied by screenings of Rasko Miljkovic’s award-winning Serbian family film THE WITCH HUNTERS (ZFF for Kids section), which earlier this year celebrated its world premiere at TIFF Kids, followed by the Young People's Jury Award for Best Feature Film, and ADAM & EVELYN (Competition „Focus Switzerland, Germany, Austria” section), the directorial debut of Andreas Goldstein in which he subtly explores the relationship of an East German couple on the verge of deciding in which world – Eastern or Western – they want to live after the fall of the Wall in 1989. The film just premiered at Venice Critic's Week Official Competition and is based on the novel of the same name by Ingo Schulze, translated into more than 10 languages.

PLUTO FILM is a world sales and festival distribution company for feature films from Germany and around the globe. It is specialized in distributing arthouse and crossover films as well as debut features by emerging talents.
