Kyrgyzstan's national submission for the best international feature film for the 2021 Academy Awards.
We are very excited to announce that RUNNING TO THE SKY by Mirlan Abdykalykov is Kyrgyzstan's national submission for the best international feature film for the 2021 Academy Awards.
The film premiered in Busan IFF, in South Korea, where it won the FIPRESCI award. It is Mirlan Abdykalykov's second feature, who was introduced to the international film scene by Pluto Film.
His debut HEAVENLY NOMADIC was a Kyrgyzstan's national entry in 2016.

Twelve-year-old Jekshen, an exceptional runner, lives in a beautiful mountain village in Kyrgyzstan. His parents are divorced, and life with his alcoholic father is difficult. Lonely Jekshen only has his girlfriend from school and his father’s friends for support. They encourage him to take part in a big race—a race that could change his life for the better.
