It was the world premiere weekend for Malene Choi’s debut drama hybrid THE RETURN and the film shone bright in both competitions it participated in – Bright Future Competition at International Film Festival Rotterdam and Nordic Competition at Göteborg Film Festival – where the feature was honoured with Special Mentions.
IFF Rotterdam: Bright Future Award – Special Mention
“What begins as a personal quest gradually transforms into a reflection on loneliness, belonging, and existential homecoming. For this reason, the jury felt compelled to give a special mention to Malene Choi Jensen’s The Return.”
Jury consisted of Ania Trzebiatowska, Nathalie Alonse Casale and Ryan Krivoshey.
Göteborg FF: FIPRESCI Award – Special Mention
“Two films were outstanding in different ways. This one for its modern and experimental approach in cinematography, editing and sound design. A special mention goes to The Return, by Malene Choi.”
The jury consisted of Jan Erik Holst, Manuel Halpern and Darjja Badior.
